Real-Time 3D Ultrasound Reconstruction Using Octrees

Ultrasound is a major medical imaging modality that widely used in healthcare because of advantages such as the use nonionizing radiation, ease operation, real-time from different perspectives, and low operation costs. The most common ultrasound produces two-dimensional images (2D) with 1D-array transducer. However, recent years, three-dimensional (3D US) has become increasingly relevant. There are many reasons behind this shift. For example, 3D US easier to register another while patients undergo procedures or during presurgical planning. In particular, freehand (FUS) yields large anatomical regions at cost. An area interest scanned conventional transducer, which tracked an attached device; resulting 2D input into reconstruction algorithm; brightness values assigned image. Several algorithms FUS have been proposed clinically used, present work, we report new neighbor search-based approach for reconstructing based on hierarchical octrees Morton key coding can be implemented GPUs using CUDA® kernels exploit multithreading. Our achieves considerably faster throughput high-resolution reconstruct dimensions 128 × voxels approximately 0.5 s. viable option obtaining real time sets acquired transducers.
